EARLY LIFE
Tiger Woods was born on December 30, 1975 in Cypress, California, to Earl and Kultida "Tida" Woods. He is their only child.

Earl was a retired lieutenant colonel and Vietnam War veteran with African American, Chinese, and Native American descent.
Kultida (née Punsawad) is originally from Thailand; Earl had met her there when he was on a tour of duty in South East Asia in 1968.
The real first names of Tiger Woods are Eldrick Tont. He was nicknamed "Tiger" by his father after an old Vietnam War friend called "Tiger" Vuong Dang Phong.
Tiger Woods stuttered as a child and used to talk to his dog until he fell asleep in an effort to get rid of it.
Woods started playing golf before the age of two under the tutelage of his father, who was one of Kansas State University's first African-American college baseball players. The following year he teed off against comedian Bob Hope on television's Mike Douglas Show. At five years old, he was featured on the television show That's Incredible.
CAREER
At age eight, Tiger won his first junior world championship.

Throughout the first decade of the 21st century, Woods was the dominant force in golf; he was the top-ranked golfer in the world from August 1999 to September 2004 (264 weeks) and again from June 2005 to October 2010 (281 weeks). During this time, he won thirteen of golf's major championships.
Back injuries led Woods to undergo four surgeries in 2014, 2015 and 2017. He competed in only one tournament between August 2015 and January 2018; this led him to drop out of the rankings of the world's top 1,000 golfers.
On his return to regular competition, Woods made steady progress, culminating in him winning his first major in eleven years at the 2019 Masters.
