Cheesecake

National Cheesecake Day is observed annually on July 30th.

The first cheesecake may have been created on the Greek island of Samos. Physical anthropologists excavated cheese molds there which were dated circa 2000 BC.


In Greece, cheesecake was considered to be a good source of energy, and there is evidence that it was served to athletes during the first Olympic games in 776 B.C.

Ancient Greek brides and grooms were known to use cheesecake as a wedding cake.

New York-style cheesecake, with its signature simple cream cheese and egg yolks make-up, was created in the 1900s by German immigrant Arnold Reuben.


NFL quarterback legend Vince Young spent as much as $5,000 per week at Cheesecake Factory during his rookie season.

Sonya “The Black Widow” Thomas set a world record in 2004 by eating 11 pounds of cheesecake in nine minutes.

The world’s biggest cheesecake, made in 2009 in Mexico City was 56cm (1ft 10in) high. It was taller than the world’s shortest man, who is 54.6cm tall.

One slice of Godiva Chocolate Cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory has 1,110 calories.

 "Cheesecake" was an American slang word, that was considered a publicly acceptable term for semi-clothed women because pin-up was considered taboo in the early 20th century.
