Hillary Clinton was born October 26, 1947 at Edgewater Hospital in Chicago. She was raised in Park Ridge, a suburb located 15 miles northwest of downtown Chicago. Her parents were Hugh E. Rodham and Dorothy Emma Howell Rodham and she grew up with two younger brothers, Hugh and Tony.
Hillary Clinton's great-grandfather, Jonathan Rodham, was a coal miner in north-east England.
Clinton claimed her mother was inspired to name her Hillary with two ‘l’s by the first person to climb Everest, until it was pointed out that she was born in 1947 and Sir Edmund Hillary didn’t conquer the peak until 1953.

In 1993 Hillary Clinton chaired a commission, which produced a complicated scheme for radically reforming America’s health care. She was forced to abandon her plans to introduce a national health insurance scheme enabling medical care to be affordable to all, due to the vehement opposition of lobby groups representing doctors, insurance companies and health care. Despite the set back, the First Lady continued to be a leading light in raising public awareness of health issues especially stressing the importance that children are properly immunized and promoting breast cancer research funding.
According to An Invitation To The White House" Hillary Clinton's favorite dish prepared by former presidential pastry chef Roland Mesnier was mocha mousse cake. She wrote: "When it appears, and then quickly disappears, I'll call Roland laughing and pleading, 'Please don't ever do it again!'"
When Hillary Clinton decided that she wanted to be a Senator, she chose New York even though she never lived there. She went on to win the election on November 7, 2000, becoming the first First Lady in US history to seek and win a political office.
