Clove

Ancient Chinese courtiers were required to carry cloves in their mouths to sweeten their breath when addressing the emperor.

Oil from cloves, the unopened dried buds of the myrtle tree, was used by European in the Middle Ages to numb toothache pain.

Tanzania is the largest producer of cloves in the world.
