The sportswear company Champion was established in 1919 by the Feinbloom Brothers as "Knickerbocker Knitting Company." They pioneered the production of sweatshirts after developing a process that allowed the use of thicker materials such as French Terry cotton. Then, in 1930, Champion sewed the first hood onto a sweatshirt to keep workers in upstate New York warm, thus also pioneering the hoodie.
Giuliana Benetton having began to design and manufacture her own small range of sweaters which her brother sold to local shops, built their own factory in 1965 and then opened her first shops. This was followed by an expanding export business with 6400 outlets in almost 100 countries.
