Crying

In the 1946 film Tomorrow Is Forever, 7-year-old actress Natalie Wood was unable to cry on cue, until her mother tore a butterfly to pieces in front of her to ensure she would sob. Her co-star, Orson Welles, called Wood a born professional, "so good, she was terrifying."

In 1973 a statue of the Madonna at a convent in the Japanese city of Akita started weeping. The hearing of a deaf nun was miraculously restored and the crying statue was authenticated by the Vatican and over 500 witnesses.

Chewing gum while peeling onions will keep you from crying.

Newborn babies cry without tears until they are several weeks old.

On average women cry 64 times a year, compared to 17 times for men.

In space, astronauts cannot cry effectively, because there is no gravity, so the tears can't flow. Instead they just congeal in their eye and sting.

Elephants cry out of emotion, and in 2013 a baby elephant cried for five hours after being rejected by his mother twice.
