Tiger Woods

EARLY LIFE 

Tiger Woods was born on December 30, 1975 in Cypress, California, to Earl and Kultida "Tida" Woods. He is their only child.

Earl was a retired lieutenant colonel and Vietnam War veteran with African American, Chinese, and Native American descent.

Kultida (née Punsawad) is originally from Thailand; Earl had met her there when he was on a tour of duty in South East Asia in 1968.

The real first names of Tiger Woods are Eldrick Tont. He was nicknamed "Tiger" by his father after an old Vietnam War friend called "Tiger" Vuong Dang Phong.

Tiger Woods stuttered as a child and used to talk to his dog until he fell asleep in an effort to get rid of it.

Woods started playing golf before the age of two under the tutelage of his father, who was one of Kansas State University's first African-American college baseball players. The following year he teed off against comedian Bob Hope on television's Mike Douglas Show. At five years old, he was featured on the television show That's Incredible.


CAREER 

At age eight, Tiger won his first junior world championship.

At the age of 15, Tiger Woods won his first USGA title, the U.S. Junior Amateur, in 1991 Three years later Woods became the youngest man ever to win the U.S. Amateur, at age 18.

Tiger Woods was the first golfer to win three consecutive U.S. Amateur titles between 1994-96.

Tiger Woods became the youngest player ever to compete in a PGA Tour event, the Nissan Los Angeles Open, at 16 years 1 month and 28 days old, on February 27, 1992 (a record later broken by Justin Thomas). He missed the 36-hole cut.


In 1995, Woods played the Masters and finished 41st in his first Masters appearance. of the year.
He turned professional in 1996 at the age of 20. The same year he played in eight PGA events and won one and was named PGA Tour rookie.

The following year, Woods won his first major, the Masters; he triumphed on April 13, 1997 winning by 12 strokes. By June 1997, Woods was ranked number one in the world. In 1999, he won eight PGA tournaments, earned a record $6 million, and began a winning streak that eventually tied Ben Hogan's 1948 streak, the second longest in PGA history.

By the age of 24 he was the youngest player ever to win all four major golf titles and just the second to win three majors in a year.

Woods won the 2000 US Open Championship on June 18 by a record-setting 15 strokes with a score of 19 under par. It was the lowest ever total at one of golf's four majors, until Australian Jason Day won the 2015 US PGA Championship with a score of 20 under par.

Woods almost ran out of golf balls during the second round of the 2000 US Open because his caddy forgot to pack the balls Tiger was putting with in his hotel room the night before. He finished the round with one ball.

Throughout the first decade of the 21st century, Woods was the dominant force in golf; he was the top-ranked golfer in the world from August 1999 to September 2004 (264 weeks) and again from June 2005 to October 2010 (281 weeks). During this time, he won thirteen of golf's major championships.

Back injuries led Woods to undergo four surgeries in 2014, 2015 and 2017. He competed in only one tournament between August 2015 and January 2018; this led him to drop out of the rankings of the world's top 1,000 golfers.

On his return to regular competition, Woods made steady progress, culminating in him winning his first major in eleven years at the 2019 Masters.

The driver swing speed of an average LPGA professional is 96 mph, an average PGA Tour player is 108 mph and Tiger Woods' is 130 mph.

Tiger Woods has made 20 hole-in-ones in his career, but his 19th and 20th hole-in-ones were 20 years apart. His 19th hole-in-one was in 1998 at the Bay Hill Invitational, and his 20th hole-in-one was in 2018 at The Madison Club.
PRIVATE LIFE 

Tiger Woods does not own the rights to the name Tiger Woods — Nike does.

He had two children, Sam and Charlie, with Swedish model Elin Nordegren, whom he married in 2004. They divorced in 2010 following Woods' multiple extramarital indiscretions. In his divorce settlement he paid her $110 million.

Tiger dated Olympic gold medalist skier Lindsey Vonn from 2013 to 2015.

Woods was raised as a Buddhist, and he actively practiced his faith from childhood until well into his adult, professional golf career.

Tiger Woods is very keen on spearfishing. In 2002 he was due to play the Western Open in Chicago but called in sick. However, Woods wasn't sick. He just wanted to go spearfishing.
