Eighteen-year-old
Henry VIII ascended to the English throne after his father, Henry VII died on April 21, 1509. He was the first English king to be addressed as "your majesty". Before then, "Your Highness" or "Your Lord King" was always used. Henry's military and diplomatic successes against France and Scotland set England on the road to becoming a major European power.
