Printer (computing)

The first electronic printer was the EP-101, invented by Japanese company Epson and released in 1968.

The laser printer was invented by Xerox in 1969 and was built from a modified photocopier. Gary Starkweather, who worked in Xerox's product development department, had the idea of using a laser beam to "draw" an image of what was to be copied directly onto the copier drum.

The first commercial implementation of a laser printer was the IBM 3800 in 1976.

All modern color printers print a secret, nearly invisible code onto every page to allow governments to track the serial number and time stamps.
