Loo tables were very popular in the 18th and 19th centuries. They were originally made for the popular card game called loo or lanterloo, but were soon adopted for other purposes such as as candlestands, tea tables, or small dining tables. The typical loo table has an oval or round top, and a hinged mechanism fitted to a pedestal base, enabling the table to be easily stored when not in use.
