Grapefruit

Grapefruit is a hybrid fruit originating in Barbados as an accidental cross between two introduced species, the Jamaican sweet orange and pomelo, both of which were introduced from Asia in the seventeenth century.

The wealthy entrepreneur Kimball Chase Atwood, founded the Atwood Grapefruit Co. in the late 19th century. The Atwood Grove became the largest grapefruit grove in the world, with a yearly output of 80,000 boxes of fruit. It was there that pink grapefruit was first discovered in 1906.

Grapefruit grow on trees in bunches, comparable to those of grapes, hence the fruit’s common name.

The first commercially successful lipstick was introduced by Guerlain in 1880. It was a pomade of grapefruit mixed with butter and wax.

The United States is the world's largest producer of grapefruit.

 Grapefruit interacts with 85 different drugs, and taking certain medications with grapefruit or 6 oz of grapefruit juice can lead to an overdose.

Mary Beth and Doug Meyer of Louisiana grew a monster grapefruit weighing more than 7 pounds 14 ounces and measuring 28.75 inches around in 2019. According to Guinness World Records said the super citrus broke two records and became the world's heaviest and largest grapefruit by circumference.
