American Football Teams

The Green Bay Packers were named for a mere $500 in sponsorship from the Indian Packing Company in 1919. The future NFL team’s co-founder, Earl Lambeau worked for the packing company at the time.

In 1957 102,368 people attended the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams game. The crowd was the largest regular-season crowd in NFL history.

The Dallas Cowboys were originally called the Dallas Steers. Deciding it better not to have a castrated animal serving as the team's mascot, Cowboys general manager Tex Schramm changed the name firstly to the Ranger then once again to Cowboys just before the 1960 season began.

In 1973 Miami Dolphins achieved the first undefeated NFL season after narrowly beating the Washington Redskins 14-7 at Super Bowl VII.

Essendon completes the AFL season with a 24-1 win-loss record, the best in the history of the league in 1980.

According to Forbes, all 32 American NFL teams were in the Top 50 richest sports clubs in the world in 2013, making the NFL easily the wealthiest sports league in the world.
